You have decided to pave your driveway, patio, pool deck or walkway with interlocking paving stones, and have picked out a pattern. You are now ready to choose colors for the paving stones.
Choosing the right colors is one of the most vital components in your paving project. How the colors you select look together, suit your yard and fit with the existing colors of the house will greatly enhance the success of any paving project. Choosing colors that you like seeing together will increase your enjoyment of the paved area.
Before you begin the color selection process, you should think about what effect you would like to achieve with the paving project. Do you want the area to be paved to blend calmly into the surroundings to create a subdued appearance, or do you want the area to appear more vivid and lively? The colors you select, and how those colors fit with the surroundings, can create either effect.
Ask your designer to provide you with color samples, and look at them in relation to your house and other surroundings. The colors you select must always be considered in relation to those around them. For help in determining combinations that work well together, refer to the established rules of design and color combination, and work with an experienced designer, who will know what color combinations will work best.
Consider these issues:
• How do the colors you are considering make you feel?
• Do you like them together, and do you like the way they look with the surroundings?
• Are these colors that you want to live with now and into the future?
Manufacturers of interlocking pavers offer a large variety of colors. These include brown, beige, red, maroon, yellow, gray, and even shades of blue or green. Manufacturers offer a wide selection of single colors and color blends. The color mixes can consist of blends of up to four colors that harmonize well together and give a surface a very interesting and lively appearance.
Ideally you should see a location to view the colors fully installed. Seeing a color on a larger scale, in natural sunlight and shadows, surrounded by landscaping and in combination with colors on adjoining buildings, will give you the best idea of how that color would look in your yard. Since Pacific Pavingstone has over 2,000 customers in the greater Los Angeles area, seeing a nearby installation will not be difficult.
If it is not possible for you to travel to different locations, have your designer show you samples of colors so you can observe and appreciate a color or color blend. A single paver in a certain color can be used as a sample to ensure the tone or hue of a color matches the existing colors or to select pool tiles, awnings or other fabrics.
Remember that color is the first impression your driveway or recreational areas will give to people as they see it from far away. The perfect color combination is the key to a successful beautification of your driveway or recreational areas.
